Issue – 1
January 2017

Maidenhead Cycle Hub is a local charity, passionate about cycling and the benefits it brings to individuals, communities and the environment. We aim get more people cycling by providing servicing and repairs, organised rides, advice on bike routes and cycling safety, and selling refurbished bikes. We also provide local people with the opportunity to gain technical and transferable life skills to build a successful future.

Happy New Year.

We wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous 2017.

2016 A huge success

I am delighted that our first ever Impact Report, detailing the activities which we undertook in 2016 in support of our charitable objectives of getting more people cycling in the area and providing training to support local residents into employment.

Despite having only been running for just over a year, I am hugely proud of both the range and volume of activities undertaken including organised rides, refurbishing bikes, work placements, educational support and engagement with local community groups and companies.

All of this would not have been possible without the support of so many people and organisations:

  • Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council for their start-up funding, support with our led rides and workshop space
  • The owners and management of the Nicholsons Centre where we have had our successful pop up shop
  • Our numerous volunteers who have led rides, staffed the shop, helped at events and much more
  • Our partners including the schools, community groups and companies we have worked with as detailed on the following pages
  • Trustees, Mark and Julia, for your belief and support

A huge thanks to you all for your support!

Luke McCarthy, Chair of Trustees

The break will allow us to work on the hundreds of bikes that have so kindly been donated to us.  We also plan to attend more events this year and work a lot more with the community and this will allow us time to focus further on this.

If you are looking for a second hand bike in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact us on workshop@cyclehub.org.uk

Interesting Facts

On a bicycle, you can travel three times faster than you can walk, for the same amount of energy. No other living thing can expend so little energy for so much self-powered travel!

final thoughts.

We at Maidenhead Cycle Hub are working hard to make cycling in our community accessible for all.  It is with absolute pleasure that we have managed to work with so many community groups, riders, members of the public in 2016 that we are making a concerted effort in 2017 to help more people.  If you think there is a community group or project that we can help please get in contact, our door is open to everyone.
